Top 11 Herbs that Restore the Health of your Hair

The Ayurvedic herbs that Radico uses in its organic hair color, hair powder treatments, and hair oil have multiple benefits. For centuries, these herbs have been used because of their restoration and beautification properties—they can color the hair, darken it, and even address common issues like damaged hair, dandruff, hair loss, hair fall, frizz, and dryness among others.

In this blog, we'll introduce to you the various Radico Herb Powders that you would love to incorporate into your hair care routine! If you like D-I-Y stuff and measuring and mixing powders like a chemist in her laboratory, this is your thing.

Meet the 11 Radico Organic Herb Powders

1. Brahmi for Hair Strength

Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), also called water hyssop, is a creeping herb that is commonly found in wetlands or any other wet, tropical environments. It is known to activate proteins that help in hair growth.

Made with Brahmi leaves, the Radico Organic Brahmi Powder makes sure to lessen hairfall, comforts irritated scalp, and strengthens the hair strands, so your hair will become stronger, have less split ends, and your scalp less irritated!

When to use it: Weekly or Every other week as Hair Treatment

2. Ritha for Cleansing and Shine

Ritha (Sapindus mukorossi), sometimes spelled as Reetha and also known as soapnut, has been used to wash hair since ancient times. They are these cute little round fruits (that kind of look like nuts!) that create suds. They were even used to make ornaments shine, so imagine how lustrous they would make your hair!

Made with Ritha fruits, the Radico Organic Ritha Powder can do everything. It is a shampoo, conditioner, and hair treatment-in-one! Regular use supports healthy hair growth, added volume, improved natural hair structure, and of course, that natural hair glow that only ritha can do!

Suggested frequency of use: Use daily if your hair only needs gentle cleansing or alternate with a gentle clarifying shampoo every other day

3. Amla for Graying Hair

Amla (Emblica officinalis), also known as Indian gooseberry, is a fruit so packed with nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that people call it 'superfood' for the hair!

Made with Amla fruits, the Radico Organic Amla Powder helps prevent premature graying and deepen the hair color, strengthens roots to keep holding on, conditions the hair, and to top it all off, adds shine!

Suggested frequency of use: Weekly or Every other week as Hair Treatment

4. Indigo for Darkening the Hair Color

Indigo (Indigofera tinctoria), also known as true indigo, has been used as the original source of the deep blue dye used for jeans. With the dark shade it produces, who knew that its leaves could be used for darkening the hair color?

Made with Indigo leaves, the Radico Organic Indigo Powder darkens hair color (so if you have resistant gray or white hair and you use Radico Organic Hair Color, you can deepen the color with Indigo), and it helps control dandruff, thus refreshing the scalp.

Suggested frequency of use: Monthly

5. Shikakai for Dandruff Control and Itchy Scalp

Shikakai (Acacia concinna) is a climbing shrub commonly found in tropical forests and plains in Asia. It has these dark brown pods which contain its seeds.

Made with Shikakai seeds, the Radico Organic Shikakai Powder conditions and treats the hair, addresses itchy scalps and dandruff, and hates breakage, so it seals the cuticles and locks in natural oils—signed, sealed, showered, we're yours, shikakai!

Suggested frequency of use: Use daily if your hair only needs gentle cleansing or alternate with a gentle clarifying shampoo every other day

6. Bhringraj for Healthy Hair Growth

Bhringraj (Eclipta prostrata) is a plant species that belongs to the same family as the sunflower. It's known as False Daisy, but nothing about its benefits are false! If you're wondering how to pronounce it too, it's bhring-rah! The letter J is a quiet introvert. ;-)

Made with Bhringraj leaves, the Radico Organic Bhringraj Powder is a terrific hair treatment that rejuvenates the hair, giving it more life and shine. It also helps prevent graying and helps promote healthy hair growth.

Suggested frequency of use: Weekly or Every other week as Hair Treatment

7. Henna for Stronger and Shinier Hair

Henna (Lawsonia inermis), whose other names include the Egyptian privet or mignonette tree, is a source of dye that can be used on the skin, fingernails, hair, and even fabrics!

Made with Henna leaves, the Radico Organic Henna Powder makes the hair strong and shiny and naturally dyes the hair with shades of orange and brown. Moreover, it balances the hair's pH levels, and it helps lessen dry scalp and dandruff.

If you have gray or white hair, you may use this as a base/primer before coloring with Radico Organic Hair Color in Soft Black, Dark Brown, or Brown, but we recommend that you use the Radico Colour Foundation Treatment instead for better dyeing and nourishing results.

Suggested frequency of use: Monthly

8. Colorless Henna for Softer and Shinier Hair

Colorless Henna (Cassia obovata) is like henna's colorless sister. If you just want the benefits of henna without the color, then this is your herb!

Made with Colorless Henna leaves, the Radico Organic Colorless Henna Powder deeply conditions the hair to make it softer and to give it a natural shine.

Additionally, it strengthens hair by coating and filling gaps especially on damaged and brittle hair, adds gloss to dark hair and brings out golden tones in blonde hair, enhances the hair’s curl pattern, and increases strength and volume.

Suggested frequency of use: Weekly to Monthly

9. Methi for Nourishment and Strength

Methi (Trigonella foenum-graecum) is also known as fenugreek. While this is a hair care blog, we'd like to share this interesting tidbit about methi—its seeds and leaves are used as ingredients in Indian cuisine dishes! But let's focus on the hair here before we go hungry while writing this blog.

Made with Methi seeds, the Radico Organic Methi Powder is one methiculously nourishing herb for the hair! It nurtures the hair to good health, strengthens the strands, and makes hair bouncy and moisturized. It also helps control dandruff and seasonal scalp irritations.

Suggested frequency of use: Weekly or Every other week as Hair Treatment

10. Neem for Head Lice and Dandruff

Neem (Azadirachta indica) is part of the mahogany family Meliaceae. It has been used in traditional remedies dating to 5000 years ago. Its other name is Indian lilac.

Made with Neem leaves, the Radico Organic Neem Powder is good for pesky problems! A natural treatment to head lice, it also prevents new ones from hatching. Its other functions include revitalizing the scalp and addressing dandruff.

Suggested frequency of use: Weekly or Every other week as Hair Treatment
